Educational Q&A

The verse presents disciplined vow-keeping (especially brahmacarya and steadfast observance of vrata) as the moral basis for receiving and mastering sacred knowledge; learning is shown as inseparable from ethical self-control and proper discipleship.

Vaiśampāyana recounts Bhīṣma’s education: he learned and mastered the Vedas along with their ancillary disciplines by studying under renowned sages—Cyavana of the Bhṛgu line and Vasiṣṭha—highlighting his rigorous training and character.
