अध्याय ३५१ — उञ्छवृत्ति-व्रतसिद्धेः मानुषस्य परमगतिः
Sūrya–Nāga Dialogue on the Perfected Gleaner-Ascetic
अवश्यमेव तै: सर्वर्वरदानेन दर्पिति: । बाधितव्या: सुरगणा ऋषयश्न तपोधना:,“वरदानसे घमंडमें आकर वे समस्त दानव निश्चय ही देवसमूहों तथा तपोधन ऋषियोंको बाधा पहुँचायेंगे
avaśyam eva taiḥ sarvair varadānena darpitaḥ | bādhitavyāḥ suragaṇā ṛṣayaś ca tapodhanāḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana dit : «Assurément, enivrés par la grâce du don qu’ils ont tous reçu, ces Dānavas harcèleront inévitablement les cohortes des dieux, ainsi que les rishis ascètes, riches en puissance spirituelle.»

Power or boons, when joined with pride (darpa), tend to produce harm toward the righteous—both worldly protectors (the Devas) and spiritual guardians (tapodhana ṛṣis). The verse warns that unchecked arrogance turns gifts into causes of adharma and disturbance of cosmic order.
