Āścarya-kathana: Brāhmaṇa–Nāga Dialogue on Sūrya (Vivasvat) and the ‘Second Sun’ Phenomenon
परस्पराड्जान्येतानि पाउचरात्रं च कथ्यते । एष एकान्तिनां धर्मो नारायणपरात्मक:
vaiśampāyana uvāca | parasparāḍ jānīyaitāni pāñcarātraṃ ca kathyate | eṣa ekāntināṃ dharmo nārāyaṇaparātmakaḥ |
Vaiśampāyana dit : Ces enseignements doivent être compris comme étroitement liés les uns aux autres ; et le Pañcarātra aussi est enseigné dans ce même esprit. Telle est la dharma des dévots d’un seul cœur : elle est tout entière tournée vers Nārāyaṇa—offrir à Lui seul tous ses actes et toutes ses visées.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse teaches that the true dharma of an ekāntin (single-minded devotee) is to be wholly centered on Nārāyaṇa. Different spiritual teachings are to be understood as interconnected, culminating in exclusive devotion and surrender of one’s life and actions to the Lord.
In the Śānti Parva’s instruction on dharma and liberation, Vaiśampāyana continues summarizing a harmonizing view of doctrines: they are not rival paths but mutually supportive. He highlights Pāñcarātra and defines the hallmark of one-pointed devotion as Nārāyaṇa-centered conduct.
