गुरुणा च मयाप्येष कथितो नृपसत्तम । यथा तत् कथित तत्र नारदेन तथा शृणु,नृपश्रेष्ठ! मेरे गुरु व्यासजीने और मैंने भी यह विषय कहा था; परंतु वहाँ नारदजीने उस विषयका जैसा वर्णन किया था, उसे बताता हूँ, सुनो
guruṇā ca mayāpy eṣa kathito nṛpasattama | yathā tat kathitaṃ tatra nāradena tathā śṛṇu nṛpaśreṣṭha ||
Vaiśampāyana dit : «Ô le meilleur des rois, cette même question fut exposée par mon maître (Vyāsa) et aussi par moi. À présent, ô souverain éminent, écoute : je la rapporterai exactement comme Nārada la décrivit en ce temps-là.»
