Atithi-satkāra and the Consolation of Wise Counsel (अतिथिसत्कारः प्रज्ञानवचनस्य च पराश्वासनम्)
नारायण: स विश्वात्मा तेनास्य शितिकण्ठता । यह देख रुद्र तपस्यामें लगे हुए उन ऋषियोंपर टूट पड़े। तब विश्वात्मा नारायणने अपने हाथसे उन आक्रमणकारी रुद्रदेवका गला पकड़ लिया। इसीसे उनका कण्ठ नीला हो जानेके कारण वे “नीलकण्ठ' के नामसे प्रसिद्ध हुए
nārāyaṇaḥ sa viśvātmā tenāsya śitikaṇṭhatā |
«Nārāyaṇa, le Soi universel qui pénètre tout, saisit Rudra à la gorge lorsque celui-ci se rua pour attaquer les sages voués à l’ascèse. Parce que sa gorge s’assombrit jusqu’au bleu sous cette prise, Rudra devint dès lors célèbre sous l’épithète de “Nīlakaṇṭha” (Celui à la Gorge bleue).»
