Atithi-satkāra and the Consolation of Wise Counsel (अतिथिसत्कारः प्रज्ञानवचनस्य च पराश्वासनम्)

पाज्चालेन क्रम: प्राप्तस्तस्माद्‌ भूतात्‌ सनातनात्‌ | महात्मा पांचालने वामदेवके बताये हुए ध्यान-मार्गसे मेरी आराधना करके मुझ सनातन पुरुषके ही कृपाप्रसादसे वेदका क्रमविभाग प्राप्त किया था ।।

tām indra uvāca—gaccha, nahuṣas tvayā vācyaḥ; atha pūrveṇa mām ṛṣi-yuktena yānena tvam adhirūḍhaḥ. pāñcālena kramaḥ prāptaḥ tasmād bhūtāt sanātanāt. mahātmā pāñcālena vāmadevena kathitena dhyāna-mārgeṇa mama ārādhanāṃ kṛtvā mayā sanātanena puruṣeṇaiva kṛpā-prasādena vedasya krama-vibhāgaṃ prāptaḥ. bābhravya-gotraḥ sa babhūva prathamaṃ krama-pāragaḥ. bābhravya-gotre utpannāḥ te maharṣi-gālavaḥ bhagavatā nārāyaṇena varaṃ ca paramottamaṃ yogaṃ ca prāpya vedasya krama-vibhāgaṃ śikṣāṃ ca praṇīya sarveṣāṃ prathamaḥ krama-vibhāge pāragaḥ vidvān babhūva.

Indra dit : «Va, et rapporte ceci à Nahuṣa. Tu as pris place sur l’antique véhicule attelé de sages, comme on le fit jadis.» Il poursuivit : «De cet Être éternel, primordial, fut obtenue la discipline de la récitation védique selon l’ordre (krama). Le magnanime Pañcāla, m’ayant adoré par la voie de la méditation enseignée par Vāmadeva, reçut—par la grâce de moi, le Puruṣa éternel—la division ordonnée du Veda. Dans la lignée Bābhravya, il devint le premier à avoir pleinement atteint l’autre rive du “krama”. Et le sage Gālava, né dans le gotra Bābhravya, ayant obtenu une faveur et le yoga suprême de Bhagavān Nārāyaṇa, composa le système de la division védique selon le krama ainsi que la science de la phonétique (Śikṣā) ; ainsi devint-il le premier et le plus éminent des érudits accomplis dans cette récitation ordonnée.»
