bhīṣma uvāca | sa evam ukto dvipadāṁ variṣṭho nārāyaṇenottama-pūruṣeṇa | jagāda vākyaṁ dvipadāṁ variṣṭa nārāyaṇaṁ loka-hitādhivāsam ||
Bhīṣma dit : « Ô Yudhiṣṭhira ! Lorsque Nārāyaṇa, le Puruṣottama suprême, eut ainsi parlé à Nārada —le plus éminent des hommes—, Nārada, lui aussi le meilleur des mortels, répondit à Nārāyaṇa, demeure et refuge du bien du monde, en ces termes. »
भीष्म उवाच
The verse establishes the ethical frame of the discourse: teachings about God and dharma are presented as loka-hita—meant for the welfare of the world. It also underscores humility and reverence in spiritual inquiry: even the greatest sages speak as respondents before the Supreme.
