Educational Q&A

Grief is sustained by attachment to sense-pleasures; by renouncing craving for enjoyment (āmiṣa/bhoga) one becomes free from sorrow and mental heat (tāpa).

Nārada addresses a listener (saumya) in an instructive passage of the Śānti Parva, urging inner renunciation of enticing pleasures as a practical means to overcome suffering.
