If one identifies with and adopts many shifting natural tendencies (prakṛti), one becomes ruled by prakṛti’s law; freedom requires discernment that separates the self from nature’s impulses.
In Śānti Parva’s philosophical instruction, Yājñavalkya explains how doership and the adoption of dispositions bind a person to prakṛti, framing a lesson on inner discipline and right understanding.
