Jarā-Mṛtyu-anatikrama: Janaka–Pañcaśikha-saṃvāda
Aging and Death Cannot Be Overstepped
This line is a colophon rather than a doctrinal verse: it signals that the chapter’s teaching belongs to Mokṣa-dharma—dharma oriented toward liberation—and frames it as wisdom transmitted through a dialogue between a sage (Vasiṣṭha) and royal/other interlocutors (Janaka, Karāla).
The text is closing a chapter: it locates the episode within the Śānti Parva, inside the Mokṣa-dharma section, and identifies the specific conversational setting (Vasiṣṭha–Karāla–Janaka dialogue), marking the end of the 307th chapter.
