Utkramaṇa-sthāna and Ariṣṭa-lakṣaṇa: Yājñavalkya’s Instruction on Departure Pathways and Mortality Signs

एतन्निदर्शनं सम्यगसम्यगनिदर्शनम्‌ । बुध्यमानाप्रबुद्धानां पृथग्पृथगरिंदम

etannidarśanaṃ samyag asamyag-anidarśanam | budhyamānāprabuddhānāṃ pṛthak pṛthag ariṃdama ||

Voici l’illustration de ce qui est la compréhension véritablement juste — et de ce qui ne l’est pas. Ô dompteur d’ennemis, pour ceux qui s’éveillent sans être encore pleinement éveillés, ces deux choses paraissent distinctes : la connaissance des sages se tient à part, car elle est fondée sur un raisonnement sûr et sur des moyens valides de connaître ; mais la prétendue connaissance des ignorants est incertaine, dépourvue de cohérence rationnelle, et n’est donc pas correcte — séparée de la juste connaissance énoncée plus haut.
