एवमेषो5सकृत्पूर्व क्रीडार्थमभिमन्यते
evameṣo 'sakṛt pūrvaṁ krīḍārtham abhimanyate
Ainsi, encore et encore comme jadis, il s’imagine que tout cela n’est qu’un jeu : il traite comme divertissement ce qui devrait être pesé avec gravité.
वसिष्ठ उवाच
The verse criticizes the tendency to trivialize serious matters: a person repeatedly falls into the habit of treating life, duty, or moral consequence as mere entertainment, which signals ethical carelessness and delusion.
Vasiṣṭha is commenting on someone’s recurring mindset—describing how, as in the past, he again and again ‘considers it play,’ implying a repeated failure to learn or to adopt a sober, dharmic perspective.
