Bhīṣma–Yudhiṣṭhira Dialogue

सौवर्ण राजतं चापि यथा भाण्डं निषिच्यते । तथा निषिच्यते जनन्‍्तुः पूर्वकर्मवशानुग:

sauvarṇaṃ rājataṃ cāpi yathā bhāṇḍaṃ niṣicyate | tathā niṣicyate jantuḥ pūrvakarmavaśānugaḥ ||

Parāśara dit : «De même qu’un vase, recouvert d’une couche d’or ou d’argent, paraît être de cette substance même, ainsi l’être vivant est-il “revêtu” par l’action antérieure. Lié à la force des actes passés, chacun demeure marqué par ce qu’il a fait : il goûte la joie lorsqu’il est imprégné de mérite, et il endure la souffrance lorsqu’il est imprégné de faute.»
