Sāṃkhya–Yoga Distinction and Instruction on Yogic Strength
Even a venerable, vow-observing sage can come into conflict with the gods when circumstances become causally decisive; the verse highlights how ethical and cosmic relationships may shift due to specific causes (nimitta) rather than mere character alone.
Bhīṣma introduces a Bhārgava sage—honored and firm in vows—who, because of a particular triggering cause, became displeasing to the gods and opposed to them, setting up an explanation of why that conflict arose.
