Adhyāya 284: Tapas as a Corrective to Household Attachment
Parāśara’s Instruction
Yudhiṣṭhira uvāca—yair nāmabhir stutavān Dakṣo devaṁ Prajāpatiḥ | vaktum arhasi me tāta śrotuṁ śraddhā mamānagha ||
Reverent inquiry and śraddhā are presented as proper gateways to sacred knowledge: Yudhiṣṭhira requests the divine names used in praising Mahādeva, implying that remembering and hearing such names is ethically and spiritually elevating.
In the Śānti Parva dialogue, Yudhiṣṭhira addresses the elder (traditionally Bhīṣma) and asks him to recount the specific names by which Dakṣa Prajāpati praised Mahādeva, expressing strong faith and eagerness to listen.
