Parāśara’s Counsel on बुद्धि (Discernment), Karma-Consequences, and Avoidance of Pāpānubandha Actions
समाविशत् तदा रौद्रो वृत्र लोकपतिं तदा | तब जगदीश्वर भगवान् शिवका तेज रौद्र ज्वर होकर लोकेश्वर वृत्रके शरीरमें समा गया
samāviśat tadā raudro vṛtra lokapatiṃ tadā |
Bhīṣma dit : Alors, la puissance farouche et courroucée entra en Vṛtra, seigneur parmi les êtres. Ainsi le Maître du monde—Bhagavān Śiva—devenu une fièvre terrible et brûlante, d’une énergie semblable à celle de Rudra, se fondit dans le corps de Vṛtra, accroissant sa force et l’effroi du combat.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights that overwhelming power in the world can be understood as arising from a higher cosmic source; wrathful force (raudra-tejas) is not merely personal anger but a potent, dangerous energy that, when unleashed, transforms the course of events and demands ethical restraint and discernment.
Bhīṣma describes a moment when a fierce Rudra-like energy—identified with Bhagavān Śiva as a burning ‘jvara’—enters Vṛtra’s body, implying divine empowerment/possession that heightens Vṛtra’s formidable presence in the unfolding mythic struggle.
