Instruction on the Cessation of Craving
कपिल उवाच यद् यदाचरते शास्त्रमर्थ्य सर्वप्रवृत्तिषु । यस्य यत्र ह्ानुष्ठानं तत्र तत्र निरामयम्
kapila uvāca | yad yad ācarate śāstram arthyaṃ sarva-pravṛttiṣu | yasya yatra hy anuṣṭhānaṃ tatra tatra nirāmayam ||
Kapila dit : « Quelle que soit la conduite que le śāstra prescrit comme convenant aux diverses fins humaines, cette conduite même porte fruit dans ces fins. Partout où une discipline est accomplie comme il se doit, là—là même—naît un bien-être exempt d’affliction, apportant un bonheur durable. »
कपिल उवाच
That śāstra-guided conduct, when applied appropriately to one’s chosen pursuit, reliably yields its proper result; disciplined observance (anuṣṭhāna) produces wholesome, affliction-free well-being.
In the didactic discourse of Śānti Parva, the sage Kapila instructs on the efficacy of prescribed disciplines: practices taught by śāstra succeed when performed in their proper context, leading to enduring welfare.
