कामबन्धन-निवृत्ति तथा शान्तिलक्षण-उपदेशः | Release from Desire-Bondage and the Marks of Peace

वृद्धबालातुरैर्वेद्यैज्ञातिसम्बन्धिबान्धवै: । मातापितृभ्यां जामीकभ्ि भ्रात्रा पुत्रेण भार्यया

vṛddha-bāla-āturaiḥ vaidyaiḥ jñāti-sambandhi-bāndhavaiḥ | mātā-pitṛbhyāṃ jāmikabhi bhrātrā putreṇa bhāryayā ||

Vyāsa dit : Le maître de maison doit toujours chérir son épouse, contenir ses sens et ne pas chercher des défauts dans les vertus d’autrui. Qu’il ne se dispute jamais avec les prêtres et officiants, les maîtres, l’oncle maternel, les hôtes, ceux qui demandent protection, les vieillards, les enfants, les malades, les médecins, les membres de sa communauté, les parents et amis, la mère et le père, les femmes de la maison, les frères, les fils, l’épouse, les filles et les serviteurs. Celui qui renonce à la querelle avec tous ceux-là est délivré de tout péché.

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches gṛhastha-dharma: cultivate love and fidelity within marriage, practice sense-restraint (becoming jitendriya), refrain from fault-finding, and renounce quarrels—especially with those who deserve protection, respect, or care (elders, children, the sick, guests, teachers, parents, and dependents). Such restraint and harmony are presented as a means to freedom from sin.
