Āśrama-dharma and Brahmacarya: Śuka’s Inquiry on Karma and Tyāga (शुक-प्रश्नः कर्मत्यागविवेकश्च)
अर्हतामनुरूपाणां नादेयं हास्ति किंचन । उच्चै: श्रवसमप्यश्च प्रापणीयं सतां विदु:
arhatām anurūpāṇāṁ nādeyaṁ hāsti kiṁcana | uccaiḥśravasam apy aśca prāpaṇīyaṁ satāṁ viduḥ ||
Vyāsa dit : «Pour ceux qui sont dignes et méritants, rien ne doit être tenu pour “à ne pas donner”. Les vertueux estiment que même un cheval tel qu’Uccaiḥśravas peut être légitimement offert à un récipiendaire approprié. Cet enseignement souligne que la générosité, lorsqu’elle s’adresse à des personnes véritablement méritantes, n’a pas de limite étroite et doit s’élever à la mesure du mérite du destinataire.»
