Duties of the Brāhmaṇa, āśrama discipline, and praise of giving
एक: शास्ता न द्वितीयो<5स्ति शास्ता गर्भ शयानं पुरुषं शास्ति शास्ता । तेनानुयुक्त: प्रवणादिवोदकं यथा नियुक्तोडस्मि तथा वहामि
bhīṣma uvāca | ekaḥ śāstā na dvitīyo 'sti śāstā garbhaśayānaṁ puruṣaṁ śāsti śāstā | tenānuyuktaḥ pravaṇādivodakaṁ yathā niyukto 'smi tathā vahāmi ||
Bhīṣma dit : «Il n’est qu’un seul Souverain : il n’en est point de second. Ce même Gouverneur dirige même l’être qui repose dans le sein maternel. Par Son ordonnance, la créature va dans le sens qu’Il veut, comme l’eau qui, par nature, s’écoule vers le bas. Ainsi, moi aussi, je porte le fardeau qui m’est échu, selon l’impulsion et le commandement de ce Seigneur.»
