Doṣa-Parīkṣā and Guṇa-Viveka
Examination of Faults and Discernment of the Guṇas
सर्वाण्येतानि संवार्य द्वाराणि मनसि स्थित: । मनस्येकाग्रतां कृत्वा तत्परं प्रतिपद्यते
sarvāṇy etāni saṃvārya dvārāṇi manasi sthitaḥ | manasy ekāgratāṃ kṛtvā tat-paraṃ pratipadyate ||
Bhīṣma dit : Ayant contenu toutes ces portes (les sens) et demeurant dans l’esprit, il faut rassembler l’esprit en une concentration à un seul point. Lorsque les facultés sont ainsi recueillies dans le cœur et que le chercheur se voue entièrement à Cela, il atteint le Soi suprême, au-delà de tout.
भीष्म उवाच
Restrain the senses (the mind’s outward ‘gates’), establish the mind in one-pointed concentration, and direct oneself wholly toward the Supreme; such inwardly gathered discipline leads to realization of the Self beyond the senses.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on dharma and liberation, Bhishma continues his counsel by describing an inner yogic method: withdrawing the senses, collecting the mind, and attaining the Supreme through focused contemplation.
