Adhyāya 2: Nārada’s Disclosure—Karṇa’s Training and the Brahmin’s Curse (Śānti-parva)

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharmic conduct in approaching a revered figure: humility (bowing), respectful demeanor, and honest self-identification. It reflects the ethical ideal that knowledge and protection are sought through reverence and proper conduct toward a guru-like authority.

A brāhmaṇa of the Bhārgava lineage goes to Rāma (Paraśurāma), bows deeply, and introduces himself as a Bhārgava brāhmaṇa, thereby approaching him respectfully and seeking his shelter or acceptance.
