सुमन्त्रितं सुविक्रान्तं सुयुद्धं सुपलायितम्‌ । आपदास्पदकाले तु कुर्वीत न विचारयेत्‌

Transliteration

sumantritaṃ suvikrāntaṃ suyuddhaṃ supalāyitam | āpadāspada-kāle tu kurvīta na vicārayet ||

Translation

Bhīṣma dit : Au temps du péril, un roi doit agir selon un conseil sûr, déployer une vaillance éminente et combattre avec une résolution entière ; et si l’instant l’exige, il doit aussi se retirer avec ordre et habileté. Quand la crise est là, il faut faire le nécessaire : il n’y a pas place pour de longues délibérations.
