ततोड<र्थगतितत्त्वज्ञ: संधिविग्रहकालवित्‌ | सान्त्वपूर्वमिदं वाक्‍्यं मार्जारं मूषिकोडब्रवीत्‌

Transliteration

tato 'rthagati-tattvajñaḥ sandhi-vigraha-kāla-vit | sāntva-pūrvam idaṃ vākyaṃ mārjāraṃ mūṣiko 'bravīt ||

Translation

Alors la souris—qui comprenait véritablement la marche de l’avantage et les principes des moyens efficaces, et qui savait quand rechercher l’alliance et quand entrer en conflit—considéra les intentions de l’ennemi. Désirant d’abord apaiser, elle s’adressa au chat avec des paroles conciliantes et suaves, choisissant la diplomatie comme première ouverture, à la fois éthique et stratégique, avant toute voie plus dure.
