यस्मिन्नर्थे हितं॑ यत्‌ स्यात्‌ तद्धर्ण रूपमादिशेत्‌ | बहुरूपस्य राज्ञो हि सूक्ष्मो5प्यर्थों न सीदति

yasminn arthe hitaṃ yat syāt tad dharma-rūpam ādiśet | bahu-rūpasya rājño hi sūkṣmo 'py artho na sīdati ||

Bhīṣma dit : «Dans toute entreprise, ce qui est réellement salutaire, le roi doit le présenter sous la “forme” du dharma, en adoptant l’attitude qui convient à ce bien. Car pour un souverain capable de revêtir de multiples formes appropriées, même une affaire subtile ne tourne pas à l’échec : il peut être sévère lorsqu’il châtie la faute, et doux lorsqu’il accorde protection et faveur aux affligés.»
