मृदु-तीक्ष्ण-नीति तथा दुष्टलक्षण-विज्ञानम्

Measured Policy and the Recognition of Malicious Disposition

इन्द्र रवाच अहितेषु कथं ब्रह्मन्‌ प्रवर्तेयमतन्द्रित: । असमुच्छिद्य चैवैतान्‌ नियच्छेयमुपायत:,इन्द्र बोले--ब्रह्मन! मैं आलस्यरहित हो अपने शत्रुओंके प्रति कैसा बर्ताव करूँ? उन सबका समूलोच्छेद किये बिना ही उन्हें किस उपायसे वशमें करूँ?

Transliteration

indra uvāca—ahiteṣu kathaṃ brahman pravarteyam atandritaḥ | asamucchidya caivaitān niyaccheyam upāyataḥ ||

Translation

Indra dit : «Ô Brahmane, comment dois-je, sans céder à la paresse, me conduire envers ceux qui me sont hostiles ? Et sans les déraciner entièrement, par quel moyen puis-je les contenir et les tenir sous contrôle ?»
