मृदु-तीक्ष्ण-नीति तथा दुष्टलक्षण-विज्ञानम्

Measured Policy and the Recognition of Malicious Disposition

निहत्यैतानि चत्वारि मायां प्रति विधाय च । ततः शक्‍्नोति शत्रूणां प्रहर्तुमविचारयन्‌

nihatyaitāni catvāri māyāṃ prati vidhāya ca | tataḥ śaknoti śatrūṇāṃ prahartum avicārayan |

Bhishma dit : «Après avoir détruit ces quatre défauts et avoir aussi conçu un contre‑moyen face à la tromperie de l’ennemi, on devient alors capable de frapper les adversaires sans hésitation. L’enseignement est que la victoire et l’art de gouverner selon le dharma exigent d’abord de vaincre ses faiblesses intérieures, puis de répondre aux ruses hostiles avec une résolution lucide et préparée.»
