ऋषिसमागमः — युधिष्ठिरस्य शोकवर्णनम्

शीघ्रास्त्रश्चित्रयोधी च कृती चाद्भुतविक्रम: । गूढोत्पन्न: सुत: कुन्त्या भ्रातास्माकमसौ किल,जिनमें दस हजार हाथियोंका बल था, संसारमें जिनका सामना करनेवाला दूसरा कोई भी महारथी नहीं था, जो रणभूमिमें सिंहके समान खेलते हुए विचरते थे, जो बुद्धिमान् दयालु, दाता, सयंमपूर्वक व्रतका पालन करनेवाले और धुृतराष्ट्रपुत्रोंके आश्रय थे; अभिमानी, तीव्रपराक्रमी, अमर्षशील, नित्य रोषमें भरे रहनेवाले तथा प्रत्येक युद्धमें हमलोगोंपर अस्त्रों एवं वाग्बाणोंका प्रहार करनेवाले थे, जिनमें विचित्र प्रकारसे युद्ध करनेकी कला थी, जो शीघ्रतापूर्वक अस्त्र चलानेवाले, धरनुर्वेदके विद्वान् तथा अद्भुत पराक्रम कर दिखानेवाले थे, वे कर्ण गुप्तरूपसे उत्पन्न हुए कुन्तीके पुत्र और हमलोगोंके बड़े भाई थे; यह बात हमारे सुननेमें आयी है

Yudhiṣṭhira dit : «Il était prompt dans l’usage des armes, habile à combattre par des tactiques diverses et merveilleuses, accompli—d’une vaillance stupéfiante. Né en secret comme fils de Kuntī, il était bien notre aîné, ainsi l’avons-nous entendu.»
