Badarapācana Tīrtha Māhātmya

Indratīrtha and the Austerities of Srucāvatī & Arundhatī

Janamejaya uvāca | kumārake abhiṣekaṁ ca taiś ca daityavadhaṁ śrutvā mahad ānandaṁ prāpto 'smi punaś ca me manasi śrotum utkaṇṭhā jātaiva || apāṁ patiḥ kathaṁ hāsminn abhiṣiktaḥ purā suraiḥ | tan me brūhi mahāprājña kuśalo 'si sattama sādhūśiromaṇe ||

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights śravaṇa (attentive listening) and respectful inquiry as a path to understanding sacred history: joy arises from hearing dharmic narratives, and deeper knowledge is sought through humble questions addressed to a competent teacher.

Janamejaya, pleased after hearing about the consecration at Kumāraka and the slaying of the Dāityas, asks the sage to narrate how the gods formerly performed Varuṇa’s consecration at that very tīrtha, praising the speaker’s wisdom and skill.
