Chapter 23: Śakuni Reports, Kaurava Advance, and Arjuna’s Penetration of the Host
न पुनः सौबलो राजा युद्धमभ्यागमिष्यति । 'यहाँ रथोंद्वारा भी युद्ध नहीं किया जा सकता। फिर बड़े-बड़े हाथियोंकी तो बात ही क्या है? रथ रथोंका सामना करनेके लिये जायँ और हाथी हाथियोंका। शकुनि भागकर अपनी सेनामें चला गया। अब फिर राजा शकुनि युद्धमें नहीं आयेगा” | ६१-६२ ह ।।
na punaḥ saubalo rājā yuddham abhyāgamiṣyati |
Sañjaya dit : «Le roi saubala (Śakuni) ne s’avancera plus au combat.» Dans l’atmosphère morale de la guerre, cette parole souligne l’effondrement de la résolution et du sens du devoir : s’étant retiré de l’affrontement direct, Śakuni est dépeint comme peu susceptible de revenir affronter les conséquences du conflit qu’il a contribué à attiser.
