Unrestrained Battle Description and Śakuni’s Rear Assault

Educational Q&A

In the ethics of kṣatriya warfare, loyalty to one’s commander includes immediate protective action in moments of uncertainty. The verse highlights disciplined regrouping and the duty of soldiers to shield their leader, even when visibility and coordination break down.

During the battle, the troops do not see their king and, fully armoured, turn back and reorganize. They close ranks and form a protective ring around Duryodhana, ensuring he is guarded from all sides.
