सहदेवद्न मे पुत्र: सदावेक्ष्यो वने वसन् । यथेदं व्यसन प्राप्प नायं सीदेन्महामति:,“बेटी! वनमें रहते हुए मेरे पुत्र सहदेवकी तुम सदा देखभाल रखना, जिससे यह परम बुद्धिमान सहदेव इस भारी संकटमें पड़कर दुःखी न होने पावे”
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca | sahadevaṃ me putraḥ sadāvekṣyo vane vasan | yathedaṃ vyasanaṃ prāpya nāyaṃ sīden mahāmatiḥ ||
«Ma fille ! Tandis que vous vivrez dans la forêt, veille sans cesse sur mon fils Sahadeva, afin que cet homme au grand esprit, tombé dans ce lourd malheur, ne sombre pas dans le chagrin.»
वैशमग्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharma as responsible care: in times of misfortune and exile, one must actively protect and support dependents so that they do not collapse into despair; ethical duty includes safeguarding another’s mental steadiness as well as physical well-being.
Amid the consequences of a grave crisis leading to forest-dwelling, the speaker conveys an instruction that Sahadeva, while living in the forest, should be continually looked after, so that he does not succumb to sorrow despite the calamity.
