Escalation of Wagers and Shakuni’s Repeated Declarations of Victory
तथा भीष्मेण द्रोणेन कर्णेन च कृपेण च । समियाय यथान्यायं द्रौणिना च विभु: सह,इसी प्रकार महाराज युधिष्ठिर, भीष्म, द्रोण, कर्ण, कृपाचार्य और अश्वत्थामाके साथ भी यथायोग्य मिले
tathā bhīṣmeṇa droṇena karṇena ca kṛpeṇa ca | samiyāya yathānyāyaṃ drauṇinā ca vibhuḥ saha ||
Vaiśampāyana dit : De la même manière, le puissant roi alla à la rencontre de Bhīṣma, Droṇa, Karṇa et Kṛpa ; et aussi d’Aśvatthāmā, le fils de Droṇa, selon ce qui convenait—observant pour chacun le respect et les égards qui lui étaient dus.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights yathā-nyāya—acting according to what is proper. Even amid political tension, dharma is expressed through correct conduct: meeting elders and renowned warriors with due respect and appropriate protocol.
The narrator states that the king (contextually Yudhiṣṭhira) formally meets prominent figures—Bhīṣma, Droṇa, Karṇa, Kṛpa, and Aśvatthāmā—observing the courtesies and rank-appropriate manners expected in the royal assembly setting.
