Nārada’s Examination of Royal Ethics
कच्चिन्मूलं दृढं कृत्वा परान् यासि विशाम्पते । तांश्व॒ विक्रमसे जेतुं जित्वा च परिरक्षसि,महाराज! तुम अपने राज्यकी नींवको दृढ़ करके शत्रुओंपर धावा करते हो न? उन शत्रुओंको जीतनेके लिये पूरा पराक्रम प्रकट करते हो न? और उन्हें जीतकर उनकी पूर्णरूपसे रक्षा तो करते रहते हो न?
kaccin mūlaṁ dṛḍhaṁ kṛtvā parān yāsi viśāmpate | tāṁś ca vikramase jetuṁ jitvā ca parirakṣasi, mahārāja ||
Nārada dit : «Ô seigneur des peuples, as-tu d’abord affermi les fondations de ton royaume, puis seulement t’es-tu mis en marche contre tes ennemis ? Déploies-tu toute ta vaillance pour les vaincre ? Et, ô grand roi, une fois vaincus, continues-tu à les protéger pleinement ?»
