नियति तु जने तस्मिन् सागरो मकरालय: । द्वारकां रत्नसम्पूर्णा जलेनाप्लावयत् तदा,उस जनसमुदायके निकलते ही मगरों और घड़ियालोंके निवासस्थान समुद्रने रत्नोंसे भरी-पूरी द्वारका नगरीको जलसे डुबो दिया
niyati tu jane tasmin sāgaro makarālayaḥ | dvārakāṃ ratnasampūrṇāṃ jalena aplāvayat tadā ||
Vaiśampāyana dit : À peine ce peuple fut-il parti—poussé par la niyati (le destin)—que l’océan, demeure des makaras, inonda alors Dvārakā, la cité pleine de joyaux, et la submergea sous ses eaux. Le vers souligne la force irrésistible du destin, qui voue à la dissolution jusqu’aux plus splendides œuvres humaines.
