ततस्तदेवेत्यभिपूज्य सत्वरं जनार्दनं कर्णमविध्यदर्जुन: । शरोत्तमै: सर्वकुरूत्तमस्त्वरं- स्तथा यथा शम्बरहा पुरा बलिम्,“अच्छा, ऐसा ही होगा” यों कहकर श्रीकृष्णका समादर करते हुए सम्पूर्ण कुरुकुलके श्रेष्ठ पुरुष अर्जुन उत्तम बाणोंद्वारा शीघ्रतापूर्वक कर्णको उसी प्रकार बींधने लगे, जैसे पूर्वकालमें शम्बर-शत्रु इन्द्रने राजा बलिपर प्रहार किया था
tatas tadeveti abhipūjya satvaraṁ janārdanaṁ karṇam avidhyad arjunaḥ | śarottamaiḥ sarvakurūttamas tvaraṁ tathā yathā śambarahā purā balim ||
Sañjaya dit : Alors, disant « Qu’il en soit ainsi », et rendant promptement hommage à Janārdana (Kṛṣṇa), Arjuna—le plus éminent des Kuru—transperça aussitôt Karṇa de ses flèches les plus parfaites, comme jadis Śambarahā (Indra, le tueur de Śambara) frappa le roi Bali.
