तत् तादृशं प्रेक्ष्य महारथस्य कर्णस्य वीर्य च परैरसहाम् । दृष्टवा च कर्णेन धनंजयस्य तथा5डजिमध्ये निहतं तदस्त्रम्,महारथी कर्णका वह शत्रुओंके लिये असहा वैसा पराक्रम दृष्टिपथमें लाकर तथा रणभूमिमें कर्णद्वारा अर्जुनके उस अस्त्रको नष्ट हुआ देखकर अमर्षशील वायुपुत्र भीमसेन हाथ-से-हाथ मलने लगे। उनके नेत्र क्रोधसे प्रज्वलित हो उठे। हृदयमें अमर्ष और क्रोधका प्रादुर्भाव हो गया; अतः वे सत्यप्रतिज्ञ अर्जुनसे इस प्रकार बोले--
tad tādṛśaṁ prekṣya mahārathasya karṇasya vīryaṁ ca parair asahām | dṛṣṭvā ca karṇena dhanaṁjayasya tathā raṇamadhye nihataṁ tad astram |
Sañjaya dit : «Voyant une telle prouesse du grand guerrier de char Karṇa—une puissance insupportable à ses ennemis—et voyant aussi qu’au cœur de la mêlée Karṇa avait neutralisé cette arme de Dhanañjaya (Arjuna), Bhīmasena, le fils de Vāyu, ne put le supporter et se mit à bouillonner de colère. Ses yeux flambèrent de rage ; l’amertume et la fureur montèrent en lui, et il parla ainsi à Arjuna, le fidèle gardien de ses vœux.»
