Karna’s Suppression of the Panchala–Somaka Forces
संजय उवाच (क्षयस्तेषां महाञ्जातो राजन दुर्मन्त्रिते तव ।।
sañjaya uvāca | kṣayas teṣāṁ mahān jāto rājan durmantrite tava || dṛṣṭvā bhīmaṁ mahābāhuṁ sūtaputraḥ pratāpavān | krodharakte kṣaṇo rājan bhīmasenam upādravat ||
Sañjaya dit : «Ô roi, par le fruit de tes mauvais conseils, une grande ruine s’est abattue sur ces Kaurava. Voyant Bhīma aux bras puissants, le vaillant fils du cocher, les yeux rougis de colère, se rua sur Bhīmasena.»
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores moral responsibility in leadership: misguided counsel (durmantrita) leads to collective ruin (kṣaya). It also highlights how anger clouds judgment, driving warriors into destructive escalation.
Sanjaya reports to Dhritarashtra that the Kauravas have suffered immense losses due to the king’s poor decisions. In the immediate battle scene, Karna, enraged upon seeing the powerful Bhima, charges to engage him.
