The verse highlights a dharmic pattern: when events carry grave moral consequences (such as war), even the gods seek guidance from a higher cosmic authority (Brahmā). It underscores humility before a larger order and the idea that right action is clarified through consultation with wisdom and legitimacy.
After hearing a significant statement made by a ‘great-souled’ figure, the gods proceed to Brahmā, first seeking his favor, and then begin to speak to him. The verse functions as a transition into a divine dialogue that will influence or interpret the course of events.
