Karṇa’s Appointment and the Report to Dhṛtarāṣṭra
Chapter 1
The verse highlights the ethical gravity of public humiliation and injustice: remembering an act of adharma (Draupadī’s coercion and torment in the assembly) produces enduring moral anguish, underscoring that violations of dignity and dharma leave lasting consequences and help drive the conflict toward war.
The narrator recalls how, during the dice-game episode, Draupadī was forcibly brought into the court and mistreated; those reflecting on that event repeatedly grieve and become deeply disturbed in mind.
