The verse highlights how the same event can produce opposite inner states: courage is strengthened by a righteous, resolute spirit, while timidity magnifies fear. It underscores the ethical and psychological dimension of war—victory and defeat begin in the mind.
Sañjaya describes a tremendous battlefield uproar—shouts, drums, conches, and clamor—that spreads in all directions, metaphorically filling the space between heaven and earth, energizing the warriors and frightening the faint-hearted.
