सर्वाश्न समरे राजन् किरीटी क्षत्रियर्षभान् । परिचिक्षेप बीभत्सु: सर्वतः प्रकिरन् शरान्,राजन! किरीटधारी अर्जुनने समरांगणमें सब ओर बाणोंकी वर्षा करके कौरवपक्षके समस्त क्षत्रिय-शिरोमणियोंको मार भगाया
sarvān samare rājan kirīṭī kṣatriyarṣabhān | paricikṣepa bībhatsuḥ sarvataḥ prakiran śarān ||
Sañjaya dit : «Ô roi, au cœur de la bataille, Arjuna, le porteur du diadème (Bībhatsu), fit pleuvoir des flèches de toutes parts et dispersa, refoulant, tous ces guerriers kṣatriyas, forts comme des taureaux. La scène montre comment une prouesse martiale disciplinée, attelée à une cause choisie, peut renverser le cours des choses ; mais elle rappelle aussi que la victoire s’achète au prix des souffrances et de l’exil de beaucoup.»
