Droṇa’s Withdrawal, Death, and the Kaurava Rout (द्रोणनिधन-प्रसङ्गः)
संजय उवाच ततः सर्वाणि सैन्यानि हतशिष्टानि यानि वै । सेनागोप्तृनथादिश्य पुनर्व्यूहमकल्पयत्
sañjaya uvāca tataḥ sarvāṇi sainyāni hataśiṣṭāni yāni vai | senāgoptṝn athādiśya punarvyūham akalpayat ||
Sañjaya dit : Alors, rassemblant les troupes qui restaient après le carnage, il nomma des protecteurs et des commandants pour l’armée, puis disposa de nouveau les forces en une formation de combat fraîche. Le vers souligne la sombre persistance de la guerre : même après de lourdes pertes, le commandement réorganise ce qui subsiste, donnant la priorité à l’ordre et au contrôle au milieu de la dévastation.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the harsh ethic of wartime leadership: after severe losses, a commander must still restore structure—assigning guardians and reorganizing formations—showing how strategy and discipline persist even when the moral cost of violence is evident.
After many soldiers have been killed, the remaining troops are gathered. Commanders/guards for the army are appointed, and the forces are rearranged into a new vyūha (battle-array) to continue the conflict.
