न हीदानीं सहाया मे परीप्सन्त्यनुपस्कृता: । श्रेयो हि पाण्डून् मन्यन्ते न तथास्मान् महाभुज,महाबाहो! इस समय जो मेरे सहायक हैं, वे अरक्षित होनेके कारण हमारी सहायता करना नहीं चाहते हैं। वे जैसा पाण्डवोंका कल्याण चाहते हैं, वैसा हमलोगोंका नहीं
na hīdānīṃ sahāyā me parīpsanty anupaskṛtāḥ | śreyo hi pāṇḍūn manyante na tathāsmān mahābhuja mahābāho ||
Duryodhana dit : «À présent, mes alliés ne veulent plus me protéger, car ils estiment que nous sommes laissés sans garde et mal préparés. Ils jugent préférable le bien des Pāṇḍava, mais ne souhaitent pas le même bien pour nous, ô toi aux bras puissants !»
दुर्योधन उवाच
The verse highlights the fragility of alliances built on expediency rather than shared dharma: when a leader is perceived as vulnerable or morally compromised, supporters may withdraw and even favor the opponent’s welfare.
Duryodhana laments that his allies are unwilling to stand by him at this moment, claiming they see his side as unprotected or ill-prepared and therefore incline toward the Pāṇḍavas’ good rather than his.
