As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction; it frames the ethical landscape by locating the narrative within the Jayadratha-vadha arc, where duty to comrades, the pressure of vows, and the moral costs of war intensify. Its function is to signal closure and contextualize the episode within the broader dharma-conflict of the Kurukṣetra war.
The text is concluding a chapter: it states that the 113th chapter—focused on Sātyaki’s entry/advance within the Jayadratha-slaying section of Droṇa Parva—has ended. It is a formal end-marker rather than a new plot event.
