The verse urges the warrior to fulfill kṣatriya-dharma by removing an unrighteous leader who has become a 'disgrace to the lineage.' It frames the act not as personal hatred but as a necessary restoration of moral order, supported by a divine precedent (Indra’s slaying of Jambha).
Vāyudeva addresses Arjuna on the battlefield, exhorting him to kill Duryodhana. To strengthen Arjuna’s resolve, he cites an earlier mythic example: Indra once killed the Asura Jambha in the Deva–Asura war, implying that decisive action against a destructive adversary is justified in a righteous conflict.
