Educational Q&A

As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction; it frames the ethical atmosphere of the episode by highlighting “sainya-vismaya” (the army’s astonishment), reminding the reader how swiftly power, morale, and perceived righteousness can shift in war when a pivotal deed is accomplished.

This is the closing formula for the chapter: it identifies the larger book (Mahābhārata), the parva (Droṇa Parva), the sub-parva (Jayadratha’s slaying), and the chapter theme (the army’s astonishment), and declares that the hundredth chapter has concluded.
