Adhyāya 78 — Bhīṣma’s Advance, Duryodhana’s Rally, and Concurrent Duels (भीष्मस्याभ्युद्यमः, दुर्योधनस्योत्साहवचनम्, विविधयुद्धवर्णनम्)
द्रोणस्तु समरे क्रुद्धों भीम॑ नवभिरायसै: । विव्याध समरश्लाघी मर्माण्युद्दिश्य वीर्यवान्,युद्धकी स्पृह्ठा रखनेवाले पराक्रमी द्रोणाचार्यने रणभूमिमें कुपित हो भीमके मर्मस्थानोंको लोहेके नौ बाणोंसे घायल कर दिया
droṇas tu samare kruddho bhīmaṁ navabhir āyasaiḥ | vivyādha samarāślāghī marmāṇy uddiśya vīryavān ||
Sañjaya dit : Au plus fort de la bataille, Droṇa—courroucé mais fier de sa prouesse—visa les points vitaux de Bhīma et le perça de neuf flèches à hampe de fer. La scène souligne comment, dans la guerre, la maîtrise jointe à la colère peut devenir une atteinte délibérée et précise, même contre un héros de premier rang.
