The verse highlights the intensification of war and the stark moral tension of kṣatriya life: courage and duty are displayed amid collective violence, reminding the listener that battlefield glory is inseparable from grave human cost.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that by afternoon the fighting became extremely fierce, with a dramatic encounter unfolding in which a single warrior engages many assembled opponents on the battlefield.
