भीष्मपर्व — अध्याय ६२: वासुदेवमहात्म्यप्रशंसा (देव–ब्रह्मसंवादः)
द्रवमाणं तु तत् सैन्यं तव पुत्रस्य संयुगे
dravamāṇaṃ tu tat sainyaṃ tava putrasya saṃyuge
Sañjaya dit : «Mais l’armée de ton fils, au cœur du combat, fut vue se briser et fuir—sa résolution ébranlée dans le fracas de l’affrontement.»
संजय उवाच
The line underscores a recurring Mahābhārata ethic: when leadership, morale, and righteousness falter, even a large force can collapse. In war, mere numbers are secondary to steadiness (dhairya), discipline, and the moral-spiritual cohesion that sustains courage under pressure.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Duryodhana’s troops are in disarray on the battlefield—described as ‘fleeing’—indicating a moment of Kaurava setback and panic amid the ongoing combat.
